Geographical position

Kurgan region has a good geographical and geopolitical position in Eurasia. It is located at the junction of the Urals and Siberia in the Tobol and Iset river basins, it borders with the Ural regions - Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk, as well as the Tyumen region and Kazakhstan. Kurgan region is an integral part of the Ural Federal District. The administrative center of the region is the city of Kurgan, a large industrial, cultural and scientific center. Kurgan region is a kind of gateway to Siberia. The federal highway “Baikal” passing through the territory of the Kurgan region and the Trans-Siberian Railway allow tourists from other regions of the Russian Federation, as well as several foreign countries, to be delivered to the territory of the Kurgan region in a relatively short period of time.

The area of ​​the Kurgan region is 71,488 square kilometers, length from west to east - 430 km., from north to south - 290 km., population - 834.7 thousand people.

Climatic features

The climate in the region is sharply continental, with long cold winters (average January temperature -19°C), summers are warm and arid (average July temperature + 19°C).

Of particular interest to Russian and foreign tourists is the hunt for Siberian roe deer, wild boar, and fur hunting animals. About 200 foreign hunters come to the Kurgan region annually.

Many people go specifically to the Kurgan region, because there are unique archaeological sites, architectural structures, religious attractions, such as the Cathedral of the Epiphany of the Lord's Church in the city of Kurgan in the traditions of Russian church architecture of the late XVII - early XVIII centuries. And for calming the soul and healing diseases in the territory of the Kurgan region there are 4 monasteries. One of the most revered monasteries in the Urals Federal District is the Ensemble of the Dalmatian Monastery and its constituent buildings - are objects of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation of federal significance. Founded in 1644 by a monk Dalmat, pilgrims come here from all over our country.

The history of the city of Kurgan originates from the settlement Tsarevo Gorodische, founded in 1679 by the peasant Timofei Nevezhin at the foot of ancient barrows. At the beginning of the XVIII century, the fortified settlement is referred to as Tsarekurgan or Kurgan settlement.

In 1782, in connection with the formation of the Tobolsk governorate, by order of Empress Catherine II, the settlement received the status of a city with the name Kurgan.

In tsarist times, the small town became a place of exile. He has seen Polish rebels, Decembrists, Narodnaya Volya. Küchelbeker, Rosen, Naryshkin were serving a link here, in memory of which the house-museums of the Decembrists were preserved. There are few historical buildings in the city, but Tsarev Kurgan himself remains.

The city of Shadrinsk was founded in 1662, it is a significant commercial and cultural center of the region, the birthplace of the famous sculptor Ivan Shadr and the famous artist Fyodor Bronnikov, whose paintings are in the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum. In Shadrinsk lived an outstanding Russian field scientist, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, Honorary Academician of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, USSR State Prize Laureate, Honorary Citizen of Russia - Terenty Semenovich Maltsev, here is the house - museum. Among 160 historical monuments are the Transfiguration Cathedral, the house of L. Surikov and many other objects of religious architecture.

Arriving in the Kurgan region, you must:

- Take a swim in Lake Medvezhye: The salt lake Medvezhye has wide beaches covered with snow-white salt, black estuaries and canals with red shores in the thickets of salt moss, tall islands with magnificent pine trees and lindens make this place unique, the most interesting and unusual for the Kurgan region. The area of ​​the lake is 61 square kilometers. The salinity of the water in the Bear varies and may even exceed the salinity of the famous Dead Sea. Mineralized mud of the lake is used to treat diseases of the nervous system, bones, joints, muscles and increase metabolism.

- Learn about the unique method of G.A. Ilizarova is the most advanced orthopedic center in the country, where for the first time in the world methods of treating many bone defects have been applied. Under him there is a museum of traumatology and orthopedics - the only one in Russia. The museum halls using touch screens demonstrate the method of transosseous osteosynthesis in action, "a walk through the human body" and much more.

- To see the unique burial mounds and the sanctuary “Savin” - “Zauralsky Stonehenge” - an ancient observatory with which people of the Eneolithic era could measure time and predict seasonal changes in nature. The sanctuary is located near the village of Buzan, Belozersky district. The cult site "Savin-1" is a unique historical and cultural object, is of great importance in studying the history of Indo-Europeans and their contacts with other ethnic groups. Also on the territory of the Kurgan region there are many separately standing mound mounds.

In addition, the Kurgan region is considered one of the wealthiest hunting and fishing lands.
